Sprinting.
Panting. Worrying. Bastian is trying desperately to escape
from the cruel bullies. He’s just climbed out of a dumpster
after they tossed him into it. But the bullies are in pursuit
again! He can hear their footsteps and voices getting closer
and closer. Just as it seems that there’s no escape,
Bastian darts into a bookstore. There Bastian meets an elderly
man there, who’s reading a book that he warns is “not
safe.” The boy borrows the book anyway, and when he
opens it later, he’s transported into an exciting new
world.
“The Neverending Story”
is a movie about a book, and based on a book. When I first
saw it as a youngster, I was captivated by the unique characters,
such as the luckdragon: a dragon with a dog’s head;
the friendly giant called Rockbiter; and Morla the Ancient
One: a turtle that looks like a huge hill. Books like this
can provide as much enjoyment as your fhi
