Have you
seen the movie “Office Space?” It reminds us that
today’s indoor workplaces can seem like prisons. Often,
they are built without windows, to ensure that an exact temperature
is maintained at all times. Each cubicle is uniformly designed,
like a matrix of honeycomb cells in a beehive. The desks are
the same. The chairs are the same. Even the coffee mugs with
the company’s imprinted emblem on the side, are the
same. Whether you live in Berlin
Ohio or elsewhere, modern life may have caused you to
forget how exciting the different seasons can be.
As humans, we learn best through
experience. Regardless of whether we live in Berlin Ohio or
another place, several activities can make learning about
the seasons fun and educational:
Spring
In places such as Berlin Ohio, Spring is when flowers start
to bloom; and animals literally come out of their shells,
burrows, or trees. Try these activities with your toddler:
• Conduct a “bug safari”
in Berlin Ohio or wherever you live, in which your child finds
as many kinds of bugs as possible, in a jar. Review counting
with your toddler, and teach to treat the bugs gently. After
the activity is over, release the bugs.
• Plant fast-growing grass seeds in eggshell halves
that have been emptied of the yokes. After the grass starts
to grow, the child can draw or paint happy faces on the eggshells.
Summer
Summer is hot, hot, hot, but many fun learning activities
still exist for your child:
• Teach about the importance
of sunlight. Grow two bean plants: one with much sunlight,
and the other in a dark area. Discuss the different results
between the two plants.
• Play a “bucket toss” game. Line up three
water buckets at different distances from where you are at.
Give the child throw three soft foam balls to throw into the
buckets. They get different points for throwing the balls
into the different buckets. The closest bucket is worth 1
point, the middle bucket is 2 points, and the farthest away
bucket is three points.
Autumn
Various activities can teach children about fall, when Mother
Nature starts to prepare for winter in Amish
Holmes County Ohio and other places:
• Point out geese that fly
in a “V” formation, and explain why they migrate.
Play a fall version of “follow the leader.” One
child is the “leader,” and then two other groups
will form two lines behind him or her, creating a “V.”
The children must follow wherever the leader “flies”
to.
• Talk to your toddlers about how the leaves change
from green, to red, orange, and yellow. Have them collect
leaves and then use glue to create a leaf collection. An alternative
for Berlin Ohio and other locations, is to collect things
such as seeds, nuts, and acorns.
Winter
Fun activities will help to keep children active and learning
during the cold winter months:
• Teach children how to match
up different animal tracks to different animals.
• Create a snow globe. Glue a tiny pine tree onto the
lid’s bottom, and use sculpting clay to anchor it. Then
an adult must pepper one tablespoon of moth crystals into
the jar’s lid. Glue the jar onto the lid and let it
dry. Shaking the jar will then make a mini snowstorm!
• Teach children about the different forms of water.
Simple “experiments” can teach them the difference
between water, ice, and steam. If you are a parent in Amish
Country Ohio Lodging or another area, the different seasons
create excellent chances for your child to learn about the
seasons. Activities such as watching Baby Monet Discovering
the Seasons DVD with your little one, will make learning a
year-round experience. |
